COVID’s Gift
Who would choose to re-live 2020 or even 2021 under the shadow of COVID-19?
No one I know. So far, over a half million people have died in America alone, over 2.5 million worldwide. That is a loss that is heartbreaking, frightening, surreal, unfathomable. And we are not out of the woods yet. The vaccines offer hope to many, fears to others. Yet, if we are brutally honest with ourselves, those of us remaining can draw strength from COVID’s revelations.
Looking down at the terrain we have been thrust into by COVID-19, we see a strange new world. World leaders, scientists and organizations are weighing in on this crisis with strong advice. Views and informational sources abound, from the pharmaceutical companies to the anti-vaxxers. There is a geyser of information to absorb, most of it worthwhile, most of it informative. But if we look beyond our very valid fears and the flow of instructions from the acknowledged experts, we will find a view deep within us that is nonetheless expansive.
Most of us acknowledge that we live a harried lifestyle, rushing and fretting our way through fears and crises. We dream of slowing down, reconnecting with inner truths and dreams, restoring our relationships, our health and peace. We long to “breathe” again.
